Into the Desert!

Who would have thought that Qatar would have so much desert???? On several weekends, we pack lots of water and snacks and head in a different direction. One time to the Saudi border, another to the inland sea, another day to hunt for fossils, then out to see a fort and the mangroves. All beautiful and interesting in their own way and defiantly hot. Makes you wonder why anyone would have settled here, back before AC! The slideshow below has some representative shots and I'll let them speak for themselves.

Speaking of desert, did you know that the world’s largest desert is Antarctica? That’s so right, an area doesn’t have to be hot to qualify—it just needs to lose more moisture than it gains. Our planet looks like a watery blue marble from space, but one-third of the land surface is desert. These are based on what I read on one of the pages of Discover Magazine.

All these pictures are stunning! I've always wanted to visit a desert ever since my father got back from Dubai. He told all about the activities they have done while they were at the Arabian Desert. I was always curious about how hot the weather is at the desert because I could not imagine that they don't experience rains in their country. My father even told me that a sandstorm came when they were at the Arabian Desert but they managed to remain calm because the people they were with were all so calm since they got used to it already. Hope I could get to visit the desert you have visited so I could try out your suggestions!

The images you have shared explains well how vast the desert ares in Qatar. It was breathtaking to watch the endless desert areas you guys have covered through out this long journey. I guess many tourists clubs conduct desert safari in their vehicles which is more safe.
